Treaty 4: The Next Generation Project / La prochaine génération

Treaty 4: The next generation project (also known as Treaty4Project) is an educational project that allows students to explore the idea of treaty citizenship to better understand the role of their generation in Treaty 4 territory (Saskatchewan) today and in the future. It is our hope this project will reinforce inclusive viewpoints about Saskatchewan’s history and promote the development of student ideas and actions of what treaty citizenship could be.

What is Treaty4Project ?

Treaty 4: The next generation project (also known as Treaty4Project) was created in the fall of 2014 by Naomi Fortier-Fréçon and Leia Laing (teachers with Regina Public Schools).  With the financial support of Saskatchewan Arts Board, Treaty4Project was implemented for the first time in 2015 with the collaboration of a team of teachers, Aboriginal’s consultants, elder and artist (see 2015 - Treaty4Project for more information about the first edition).

Treaty4Project is an educative project that allows students to explore the idea of treaty citizenship in order to understand the role of their generation in Treaty 4 in Saskatchewan today and in the future.

Based on their learning experiences in the classroom beforehand and the workshops they attended during the Youth conference, the students are ask to imagine what an ideal Treaty 4 citizenship could look like. Treaty4Project is a learning experience for students and also for teachers. It is our hope this project will reinforce inclusive viewpoints about Saskatchewan’s history and promote the development of student ideas and actions of what treaty citizenship could be.
